Winter is coming..
Lots of tidying, cutting back. Other things to do. Lift dahlias and store in dry compost, cut back perennials, plant bulbs, weed beds and mulch with compost/manure -this will give the beds a good start for spring planting. Use violas, winter pansies and cyclamen to give some colour over the winter months.
More hedges and clearing
This hedge I reduced the width last year to get it off the pavement. Now it’s recovered, time to reduce the height Clearing weed.. Sorry weeds.. and using left over compost bags to act as a weed barrier.. For eventual planting..
Nothing like a good bonfire on a frosty morning
Autumn clearance
Some more clearing.. It’s that time of the year. And some emergency treatment for an Amelanchier tree which was in danger of being waterlogged. Here’s hoping the emergency treatment was administered in time! An overgrown hydrangea reduced in size but will still have a great show of flowers next year
Autumn tidy up
The summer gardening is coming to an end and now it’s the beginning of tidying and preparing for winter and spring.

Planting and things
Creating a new front flower bed for fragrance: roses, Daphne, and gardenias. After watching the Gardener’s World episode aired on Friday 8th October about trees planted a Sorbus splendens after removing a clump of Hellebore dividing it and replanting it. Weeding and tidying a rockery
Some challenging fencing
Almost 2 hours clearing brambles just to be able to get to the fence! Then having to align it with the existing fence which had not been placed according to the boundary lines.
