Resilience of plants

I hate that word “resilience” – it’s THE word of the noughties , from schools to government – used to justify hard times and “praising” people for their “resilience”.

However when it comes to plants , that is where you see true resilience. I transplanted a very old rose bush (25 years old) as it was in the wrong place. I cut it right down – and dug it out trying to keep as many roots as I could, difficult! So many had to be cut to get the plant out of the ground.
I then moved it from the back garden to the front garden. A nice big hole and with added compost and ensuring that the fork dug deeper than the hole for drainage. (all the while reassuring the plant that it was for its own good – yes I talk to plants).

Now in April first shoots are beginning to show – not expecting flowers this year – but will be caring for it (and talking to it) and hopefully it will provide some lovely colour for the future. PATIENCE!!
