recycling

One of the “waste” objects that are regularly thrown away are great for planting seeds especially peas, beans, sweet peas and other larger seeds.

The toilet paper carboard tube (or from the kitchen paper – cut in half).

Arrange them in a plastic pot ( I used a pot large enough to hold 10 tubes). It doesn’t matter too much if they are a bit squashed.

Then fill them about half way full with seed compost (tends to have less nutrients as the seed itself has everything the plant needs for initial growth). Place 1 or 2 seeds in each tube and then cover with more compost. Water well and place inside out of direct sunlight and wait! Gardening helps to promote patience – you learn to give things time – as in germinating, growing, flowering and harvesting.
I sowed mangetout seeds – one of my favourite vegetables. 2 seeds in each.

ready for germination!
